Outdoors: bushwalking, sailing, bicycling, kayaking & snorkelling, weekends away staying at hostels or car camping. Social: restaurant nights, theatre parties, trivia nights and picnics.

Social Activities

Fancy a night out at a restaurant, the fun of a trivia night or watching an outdoor event under the stars. You can do all of these and more with YHA. Historically this has always been a very sociable club. Our social program provides great opportunities for fun times as well as giving members the chance to get to know each other better and in a different environment from that experienced on our outdoor events. A wide range of interests is covered and many other things are also possible as long as there are people interested in organising and doing them. Everyone can participate and new organisers are particularly welcome. Unlike bushwalking or sailing no special skills are needed and our existing organisers are happy to help with any advice. Our social activities have helped to form many good friendships in the past and we trust that they will continue to promote fun, friendship and strong social bonds between clubmembers in the future.

Note - Booking a few days ahead or earlier if specified in the program is recommended both as a courtesy to the organiser and to avoid disappointment. As per bushwalking if it is an outdoors activity starting early and it is raining consistently it is best to assume that the event is cancelled rather than travelling to the meeting point or trying to ring the organiser very early in the morning.

Travel Information Nights

Travelnights are held at 7.30pm on the 3rd Monday of each month at 9th Floor, Sydney Central YHA Corner Rawson Place & Pitt Street near Central Station. Travelnights are a longstanding YHA tradition and normally feature guest speakers with slides and video’s covering the wonderful world of travel and adventure. Past presenters have included outdoor identities Greg Mortimer, Peter Tressider, Dave Noble and famed adventure photographer Matt Dillon along with experienced travellers from within the club. Light refreshments are available at the end of the night and everyone is welcome.

Anyone with suggestions for Travelnights, those who wish to present something themselves or anyone who would like to provide a Travelnight Supper (all costs reimbursed) can contact Brendon on (02) 9498 3520 (H) or 0414 493 520 (M) or at Brengun@Canada.com.
